DIY Concrete Faux Stone Facade
I wanted to cover the skirting area of our front porch with an Austin stone (limestone) veneer to match the stone on the rest of our house. But when I couldn’t find any to match, I decided to make my own. I started by making my own DIY silicone stone-textured mats using the real stone on our house for the texture. Then I turned those silicone mats into molds that I could pour concrete into. Next, I mapped out my design so that I would know how many of each stone design I needed to cover the front porch skirting area.
I originally intended to make my own aircrete (50% lighter than standard concrete), but that didn’t work out. The reasons are explained in one of the posts. I ended up using a standard quick set concrete mix instead.
