Every since my new living room rug arrived, I’ve been chomping at the bit to get that room finished. After considering all of the projects I still needed to finish up (or hire out) before the room could be finished, and also after playing around with some furniture arrangements with the furniture I currently have, I decided to heck with it.
I want new furniture, and I want immediate gratification. š
So I went on a bit of a buying spree. It was a small buying spree, but it still felt good. And it’ll feel even better when everything gets here next week!
Want to see what I bought?
First, let’s not forget my rug. It’s my absolute favorite thing that I’ve purchased in a very long time. I mean, it’s perfect, and beautiful, and colorful, and soft, and I still love to stare at it.
I got that rug from Overstock. You can click here to see it on their website.
After getting that rug and seeing how beautiful all of those colors look on my living room floor, I decided that I didn’t want to cover up the pattern and colors with a large, heavy upholstered ottoman that has a really low solid wood shelf. I decided instead to keep things airy and light with a glass coffee table.
The one that I really wanted was this one from Houzz.com, but there’s no way I’d ever pay $1300+ for a coffee table. My limit for something like that would be more like $300. So I found one very similar in style on Amazon with a price that’s much easier on the wallet.
You can click here to see that coffee table on Amazon. It has really great reviews.
The next thing I purchased is a recliner. Yep, a recliner. But don’t worry. It’s not one of those big, puffy things. It’s streamlined and beautifully upholstered in a light gray fabric with a subtle herringbone pattern on it.
There was only one review, and it’s actually what convinced me to hit the “add to cart” button, so I’m hopeful. Buying furniture online is a bit of a gamble, so I rely heavily on customer reviews, and I generally like to have more than one review (way more than one) to rely on.
Anyway, you can click here to see the details of this little recliner.
And finally, I bought a little sofa. Okay, a loveseat. I bought a loveseat. After looking at my current sofa and trying two different furniture arrangements with it, I finally decided I need something narrower. But my current sofa is 73 inches wide, which is “apartment sofa” size. So anything narrower would really be a loveseat.
And just like I said I wanted to do, I went with green. It’s not really the soft, fresh, light green I had in mind. But I think it’ll be really beautiful in my living room.
I won’t be keeping those pillows. š
And once again, I relied heavily on the customer reviews. People seem really impressed with this little guy, so I’m taking a chance on it. You can click here to see the details of this little loveseat.
So if you put all of those together, here’s what I have so far…
That leaves me with two matching chairs that I need to reupholster. That feels completely manageable. If things go smoothly, I just may have a finished living room by the end of the year! That would be exciting! But at the very least, I’l have a functional living room in the very near future. That’s pretty darn exciting, too.

Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.

November 10, 2017 at 9:52 amSo pretty. The color of your draperies is beautiful. In fact, it’s my favorite color! I have a tendency to lean toward bolder colors, so I’ve paired it with BM Claret Rose, but it pairs beautifully with these light tones. I look forward to seeing the finished living room.

November 10, 2017 at 10:18 amI like all of your choices and that glass topped table will be useful and open to your rug below. I can’t wait to see it all pulled together (don’t I always say that?).

November 10, 2017 at 1:10 pmAs a soft color lover, the blending of your new furniture with the soft colors in the rug make for a very comfortable, ‘at home’ feeling. Just looking at what you have purchased so far and not even in the room on that darker floor yet is a beautiful sight.
Once I gave myself permission to follow my heart into softer colors and not feel the need for the bolder colors that so please my Mom and sister, I am more comfortable in my home and my clothing choices.
So glad to have discovered you and your blog. It feeds my desire for new and changes when so many other changes are occurring in my life that your blog is giving a beautiful, presently satisfying balance for future reference and useful ideas.
THANKS Kristi ! ! !

November 10, 2017 at 10:33 amThe color of the recliner is listed as barley which to me is a beige color. Either way I love all of your choices. Canāt wait to see the outcome .

November 10, 2017 at 12:21 pmIn the product description, it says the color is gray. It’s probably somewhere in between. š My walls are a really light warm gray, so that would work.

November 10, 2017 at 12:49 pmIām so sorry I reread the description and I saw where it said it was barley herringbone upholstery. I did look further and I see where it says grey.

November 10, 2017 at 10:38 amI love the teal drapery fabric and that coffee table is sweet. Glad the rug is going to shine through. It’s gorgeous.

November 10, 2017 at 11:03 amI really like your choices. It’s going to look wonderful. So bright and airy and colorful without being loud.

November 10, 2017 at 11:08 amWow Kristi, you’ve definitely got your ‘groove’ back. Well done. I love the coffee table and like you say, it will allow your gorgeous new rug to shine through it. Where have I been, I didn’t know you could get such a stylish good looking recliner. My husband loves recliners…..I think it’s a guy thing, and there’s no way I’d not be hesitant to get one, like you’ve chosen. The love seat is also very stylish and classic and I think all the colors you’ve chosen for the big items, compliment the rug so well. Can’t wait to see it all together…..how exciting!!!!

November 10, 2017 at 11:14 amI’m worried about the shade of the green love seat, it just doesn’t feel right. Maybe it’s just me. Love everything else!

November 10, 2017 at 11:34 amThat’s was my first reaction tooš Sorry. But maybe it’s those really ugly pillows throwing us off. Clicked on the link for the table… $113 for “expert assembly ” š Looks like 8 screws at the most! Can I get that job? You’ll have to let us know how very complicated the assembly is Kristiš
Kristi
November 10, 2017 at 12:28 pmYeah, I laughed about that assembly charge. It actually arrived yesterday evening, and it took me all of 10 minutes to drag the package in from the front porch, cut away the cardboard packaging, and assemble the table with the 12 screws and hex wrench provided in the box. I can’t imagine paying $113 for that! š

November 11, 2017 at 2:52 pmLOL, I love the pillows!
But they do not go with the rug, very hard to decorate around a rug like that.

November 13, 2017 at 9:26 amI thought the same thing, I love everything you put together but the shade of green in the sofa is not registering to me. I keep looking at the rug trying to find the color. I can’t wait to see it all together, I know as a designer you will pull it all together in the end and surprise us all!! Great Work!

November 13, 2017 at 12:16 pmI felt the same way. For the life of me I cannot discern any green in that rug even in the close up pics.
I would like to see the sofa in a more assertive colour, especially with the dark teal of the draperies. I feel like the upholstered furniture is all one tone even if the colours are different.
I’m prepared to wait and see though before I pass judgement. LOL.

November 10, 2017 at 11:22 amEverything looks lovely! For me, I wish the recliner came in teal or a cornflower blue, it would go very well in our living room. I’ve been wanting to redecorate for a long time, I just can’t make up my mind!! Thank your so much for posting. I love seeing your posts and I’m so glad I found you!

November 11, 2017 at 12:36 amYour living room is going to be so pretty with that rug as the centerpiece!

November 10, 2017 at 11:26 amI’m leery of the green, seems like it would compete with all the beautiful colors in the rug…

November 10, 2017 at 11:32 amIf you don’t like the recliner here is a round up of recliners from Emily Henderson’s site. In the comments many of her readers actually have these chairs. https://stylebyemilyhenderson.com/?s=recliner+round+up I like everything you bought.

November 10, 2017 at 3:02 pmI bought my wingback recliner from LazyBoy 10+ years ago. I too refused to own a puffy one with a ā gearshiftā. Most people donāt know itās a recliner. Plus it has a lifetime warranty on the mechanism. A splurge for sure, but in my mind well worth it.

November 10, 2017 at 11:48 amHi, I am in the process of modifying a house for my boyfriend in a wheelchair. I am wondering about the recliner — does your husband use it? If so, does it work for him? I am not OK with the oversized brown pleather recliner that may have to stay and would love this recliner as an alternative.
Thanks,
Holly
Kristi
November 11, 2017 at 12:15 pmI just ordered it on Thursday night, so I don’t have it yet. But no, my husband won’t use it. He only ever sits in his wheelchair. This recliner is too small for a person of Matt’s size, though. He’s 6’1″ tall, and I think this one is more comfortable for someone shorter. I’m only 5′ tall, so it’ll work fine for me.

November 11, 2017 at 2:49 pmThanks, Kristi. I think we will stick with the big leather recliner for now and then figure it out. I will let you know what we end up with in his bathroom — we are working on ripping out a separate toilet room, building an accessible shower and essentially making a wet room, with a floating vanity. I am excited to see it all come together.

November 10, 2017 at 11:55 amSomething does not feel right about the colors of the love seat and recliner. It might be my screen but they appear too close in color and lacking contrast. Love the rug and as always I know you are on your way to a gorgeous living Room!
Linda
November 10, 2017 at 11:55 amAgree with others….no on loveseat. Green does nothing for the rug, etc. But, YOU are the only one that has to be happy! If your happy, then go for it!
Lori L
November 10, 2017 at 12:14 pmWhy not get 2 recliners? Could your husband sit in one of them? Just a thought. I love everything that you have chosen!
Kristi
November 10, 2017 at 12:32 pmMatt only sits in his wheelchair.

November 10, 2017 at 12:27 pmLove that soft green!!!!! It will blend with everything.

November 10, 2017 at 12:38 pmOMG! I LOVE it all! Can’t wait to see it finished in the room! The colors are fabulous!

November 10, 2017 at 1:02 pmSorry but I feel that the green loveseat fights with the blues/purples in your absolutely beautiful rug. I personally would like a darker sofa.

November 10, 2017 at 1:32 pmHooray for instant gratification! Now you’re speaking my language. I thought about a love seat when you previously mentioned size constraints. Looks like you’ve come up with a great solution.

November 10, 2017 at 1:37 pmI personally think your choices are lovely! I love that they make the room look gathered over time. I especially love the coffee table, and agree you would want to see the beautiful rug! That bit of melon in the rug is pulled out with the metal of the table. Hope to see a finished room by the end of the year!!! Will you be adding any more art or accessories?
Kristi
November 10, 2017 at 1:46 pmOh, yes. That’s how I’ll (hopefully) tie in the green loveseat with the other colors.
CathyR
November 10, 2017 at 2:57 pmSelling the pillows? Think of me if you keep the loveseat.
Betsy
November 11, 2017 at 7:21 amI hope you can get them, Cathyr, if Kristi sells them. The fabric is so interesting and refreshing.

November 10, 2017 at 3:47 pmI’m glad it’s all coming together for you! There’s something restful about having rooms in your house that make you happy, even when you still have ongoing projects. I can’t wait to see the final photos!

November 10, 2017 at 4:52 pmI love the rug! So my style. The coffee table will tie in with your sunburst art well!! I love how your able to use gold and that your blog offers a eye pleasing alternative to all the ship lap and barn board and mason jar chalk style!
Theresa P
November 12, 2017 at 8:06 pmI totally agree! While I think one or two houses with ship lap and chalk paint and mason jars is interesting, it seems like EVERYONE is doing that now, which is just crazy to me. We don’t all need to have the same house!

November 10, 2017 at 5:07 pmI’m going to buck the trend, because I LOVE the color of the loveseat with the rug. Can’t tell if there are matching hints of green there or if the color is sort of implied, but I think it’s fantastic. It’s going to feel like spring in there.
A big expanse of glass makes me feel chilly, but that’s a personal thing. Can’t wait to see that coffee table floating above the rug. And no corners to whack yourself on.
We inherited some puffy recliners with a vacation rental, and they are divinely comfortable and quite ugly. I’ve tried the lovely stealth recliners, but at 5′ 7″, my heels hang off, and it’s not comfy. They also don’t recline as far. So we don’t have a recliner at home. Yet.

November 10, 2017 at 9:58 pmI love all your choices, however my most favorite
part of your new recliner is that it is a tight back.
It is getting almost impossible to find loveseats and
sofas that are tightback. I have found that they last way
longer than tacked loose pillow or sewn pillow back.
Great choices!!

November 11, 2017 at 9:10 amKristi – Love your choices and how well it all goes together. Coffee table is a great idea. So smart in purchasing these items. Frankly the prices are great and may be better than the cost of doing it yourself. Also – I love that you have the links for the furniture – I had never gone to the Birch Lane. I am looking for furniture for new home we are building… Thanks again – you always bring something fresh and new to the table.

November 11, 2017 at 10:51 pmPretty! Good for you! Thrifty Decor Chick has the same coffee table and loves it. Hope all purchases work out as you hope.

November 14, 2017 at 4:18 amSome very good choices, i like them a lot! What colour are you thinking of upholstering the chairs in? I’m going through a stage of strong contrasting colours at the moment, not sure why!
