Textural Art That Is Inspiring Me (For Our Dining Room)

Yesterday, I shared that I have been going through all of the inspiring posts that I’ve saved on Instagram over the years to find ideas for the artwork in the dining room. I’ve been saving ideas and inspiration for so long now that it has taken quite a bit of time to go through all of the ones I’ve saved. And as I found one that inspired me specifically for the dining room, I would open that one up in a new tab on my browser. When I got through all of them, I noticed that the ones I gravitated towards fell into two specific categories — colorful circles and butterflies. The butterflies don’t really fall into the category of “abstract” that I mentioned yesterday, and quite frankly, I surprised myself when I went back through them and saw this theme emerge. But even though they’re not abstract, I still think they would work in the dining room with the large, colorful landscape painting.

Some of the inspiring artwork I’ve saved dates back to 2018, so as I said, I’ve been saving things for many years now. Here’s just a sampling of the ones that caught my eye.

This one is from Katarina Lim Designs on Instagram. I love the textured, overlapping look of these colorful circles.

This one is from Elisa Sheehan Art on Instagram. This is actually eggshells! How creative is this?! I love the delicate look, and of course, the color draws me in.

This one is from Tiff Manuell on Instagram. More colorful circles. I was really shocked as I started going through the ones that I pulled out to see this recurring theme of colorful circles.

This last one is from Craaftelle on Instagram. This account is AI content, but I still found this one very interesting.

Two of those kind of remind me of the “fish scale” artwork I made back in our condo days.

Now moving on to the butterfly theme, this first one is from Elisabeth Hays Art on Instagram. Again, I love the colorful and delicate look of these butterflies.

I found it so interesting that as I went along and pulled out the ones that inspired me for the dining room, almost all of them seemed to fall into these two categories. I wasn’t even thinking about circles or butterflies as I quickly scrolled through the years and years of inspiration pictures that I’ve saved, and yet, these two categories just naturally emerged.

I’m still not quite sure what I’ll create for those walls, or how these inspirational artists and their work will play into that, but it seems like I have two different themes that I can choose from that will serve as my jumping off point. Whichever one I choose, I’ll be creating large, rectangle pieces to flank the pantry doorway like I’ve had for years now, and they will be hanging above new scalloped benches that I will be building to go on those walls.

  1. Have you thought of hanging plates which are circles on either side of the pantry? That would be something different

  2. I love all of them, and if you need eggshells, I’m your gal. Let me know and I will happily send them down to you, free of charge. I’ve got 30 laying girls, and I get that many eggs a day. We freeze dry a lot of our eggs and give away a lot to our neighbors and friends. I’m glad you got to look back at all the things that catch your eye. It is how I am able to see what I want to do with a room, if I keep saving the same type of picture with the same type of colors, I know I am on the right track. Whatever you choose, it will be gorgeous. Can’t wait.
Cheers to you, Matt, and the Fur Inspiration Team!!!

  3. The butterfly theme reminds me of the artwork you used in the master bathroom. So it makes sense that you were drawn to the butterflies.
