2025 Home Goals — Two Month Progress Report

This weekend, I was feeling a bit down and anxious about the lack of progress over the last few days. Yes, the floor in the master bedroom suite is getting sanded, but that process has gone slower than I had expected. But if all goes as planned, it should be done today. That means that by the end of the day, workers will be out of our house and the project will be completely in my hands from here on out. That moment can’t come quick enough.

So I decided to look back over my list of 2025 home goals and see just how much I’ve gotten done, and how much I still have to do. This was a good time for it because we’re just entering March, which means we’re now 1/6th of the way through the year. I have ten more months to knock off as many of the items on my 2025 list as possible.

I was very encouraged by looking back over my list and checking off the items that have been done. I think it was in 2023 that I did these “progress report” posts on a monthly basis to keep myself focused. It was actually a great encouragement and accountability for me. I won’t be doing them monthly this year, but I might do it every two months or so to keep myself accountable and motivated.

As it turns out, I’ve gotten quite a lot done in the first two months of 2025! It doesn’t seem like I’ve gotten a lot done simply because most of the work so far hasn’t been done in the bedroom suite. And let’s face it. The bedroom suite is the project that all of us want to see done, right? The bedroom suite is and will be the “main event” of 2025. But it’s far from the only thing on my 2025 list. So as a review and a two-month progress report, here’s what I’ve done so far in 2025.

My first project of the year was to built shutters for my workshop out of PVC boards to match the ones on our house.

Then I added the PVC skirting around the bottom of the workshop.

And I built the steps to the front door of the workshop.

I built window flower boxes for the workshop.

And while this wasn’t on my original list for the year, I had some much-needed gutters installed on the workshop.

I installed French doors in the cased opening leading to our master bedroom suite. And while they’re not completely finished (they still need privacy film and door handles), at least they’re painted and usable now!

I had hardwood flooring installed throughout the bedroom suite. This wasn’t a DIY project, but it’s progress!

And while it’s not quite finished, so I can’t actually check it off of the list yet, the floors are getting sanded now and will (hopefully) be done by the end of today.

And while this wasn’t an individual line item on my original list, I also got all of the drywall repairs finished in the walk-in closet/laundry room, got the walls primed, and chose a color for the closet cabinets. FYI, I’m going with Clear Vista on the left. I might end up having it mixed at 75%. We’ll see. But the drywall repair and priming was a pretty big project in this room that needed to be done, so I added it to the list just so I could cross it off. 😀

I had added that line item to the list for the bedroom because that’s going to be an even bigger job getting all of that drywall repaired and primed and ready for wallpaper and wainscoting.

I had definitely hoped to be further along on the bedroom suite by now, so I do feel like I’m a little behind the schedule that I had planned in my head. But also, I tend to be a bit overzealous and unreasonable when it comes to timelines. My Wonder Woman syndrome often leads me to believe that I can get far more done in a period of time than is actually possible. In reality, I think I’m off to a pretty good start on my list for the first two months! We’ll check back at the beginning of May and see how these next two months go.

  1. Any progress is good progress in my book! Sometimes life happens and slows the progress. I am wondering why you’re considering mixing the Clear Vista paint at 75%. I think it’s beautiful with the wallpaper just as it is.

    1. I’m just considering it. I think it’s beautiful just as it is, but I’m only seeing a relatively small rectangle right now. When the room is finished, that color will be on all of the cabinets, and it might be a bit much. We’ll see! I’ll test out both and then decide.

  2. I’m interested in seeing the wallpapering and prep for that. I’ve been thinking I need about using wallpaper, but for some reason I’m hesitant? Scared? Apprehensive? Maybe watching you will answer/resolve some.of this for me.

BTW, I like the new format of your site! And other changes you added.

  3. Oh my, you have been busy…I also have a list and some items have been on that list for years, I just keep moving the things I either did not start or finished to the next year’s list. However, everything you do counts, such as taking care of Matt, friends and family. I understand you’re anxious to get it DONE…however, I’ve found that the journey there is what brings me happy giggles! You are going forward whether you think that or not.

  4. I think you’re doing great! We have to have a little wiggle room with projects! I’m often hard on myself with my own deadlines, also. The hardest part for me is just starting the Next Big Thing. For me, it’s changing a subtle paint color on two doors that need to match the trim around them. If you can do, then so can I!

  5. Look at Garage Door Murals, there are all kinds! Also look at garage door screens, you can have the garage door open with the screen pulled down. I think you are getting more done than you realize, the list is great. I love marking things off! But my to do list never seems to go away!! Keeps me busy though!

  6. The workshop alone was such a huge undertaking – it turned out absolutely adorable and will be so useful! (Wish I had the space for one)
    It should count double!

  7. I think you’ve already accomplished a HUGE amount in just 2 months!
Don’t forget to add cleaning all the grout in the shower….that was another big job to check off your list.
I too make a job list and there’s nothing more satisfying than checking things off; it’s starting them, that’s always the hardest part.

  8. You are amazing! Just wanted to add that for the last week or so anytime I click on ‘See recent posts” it says error. I don’t know what’s going on or if it’s on my end but I’ve never had trouble in the past. I just happened to be able to see this post since you have it listed under recent projects. Just wanted you to know because I am missing reading your awesome posts!

      1. The link on your website that says see recent posts in red. Then I tried another link to your latest posts on the website and it says same error. My computer is on the fritz and I am having to use the guest option on safari but I am not having trouble with any other websites so it could be on my end but unsure why your site is the only one? Thanks for answering!
