A New Hallway Bathroom Vanity Color (Goodbye Orange, Hello Pink)
I was very short on time for working on house projects yesterday, so in deciding what I wanted to do with my limited available time, I landed on painting the hallway bathroom vanity. I’ve been living with that orange vanity for four years now, and disliking it more with each passing day. I decided I wanted to exchange the orange for pink, and I finally have my pink bathroom vanity!
Here’s how the bathroom with the orangish vanity has looked since its makeover in 2019.

But when the new vanity countertop was installed at the beginning of this week, it looked even worse to me. (And it always looks like a brighter orange when standing in the room than when viewing it from the hallway.)

When the countertop was installed, I wasn’t sure how much longer I could stand to look at that vanity color. Well, I found the answer to that question yesterday. 😀
I purchased fabric to make a new shower curtain for the bathroom (you can find the fabric here – affiliate link), so I took that to Home Depot to find a paint color. I narrowed it down to two colors — Behr Glamorous (the one on the left) and Behr Ballerina Tutu (the one on the right). I decided to go with Glamorous.

I’m so glad that the one I liked better was called Glamorous and not Ballerina Tutu. I’d have to reject a color named Ballerina Tutu on principle alone. 😀 I’ve developed a real love for pinks, but a pink color called Ballerina Tutu is a little too on the nose.
This was a relatively quick and easy project because (1) the vanity isn’t that big, and (2) it was previously painted with latex paint and was never topcoated with a clear finish. So that means that in order to change the color, all I had to do was give everything a very quick sanding with 220-grit sandpaper, wipe off the sanding dust, and then brush the new paint right over it. I was beyond thrilled to see that orange color go! Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the new Glamorous and the old Tandoori, although the new color is still wet (and therefore, brighter than the final dry color).

I gave the vanity two coats of paint, and I painted it with a 2-inch brush. And because I was using a brand new quart of paint, I didn’t even add Floetrol. The paint was perfect right out of the can, and it went on very smoothly.
I didn’t even remove the doors or drawer fronts to paint. I simply painted the fronts and edges of the doors first, and then opened the doors and painted the backs of the doors and the cabinet frame. I did the same with the drawers. I painted the front of the drawer fronts first, and then opened them and painted the back of the drawer fronts, and then painted the cabinet frame. And then I left everything open to dry.

And here it is completely painted and dry.

I love it! I’m so excited to be rid of the orange. The pink bathroom vanity looks so lively and fresh in comparison, and I love it with the gray countertop.

I have new door and drawer pulls on order, and they’ll be here tomorrow. I went with these very simple pulls in Champagne Bronze (affiliate link) to match the new Delta Arvo single hole faucet in Champagne Bronze (affiliate link) that I bought for the bathroom. I’ll be swapping out all of the silver/nickel metal fixtures for Champagne Bronze, but I haven’t gotten around to purchasing the rest yet.
So here’s a look at the Behr Tandoori that I’ve had for the last four years, and the new Behr Glamorous. This pink bathroom vanity just makes me smile!

This vanity has changed colors many times over the years. Let’s take a little trip back, shall we?
When I did the original bathroom remodel in 2015, I painted the vanity a teal color.

And then in 2019, I painted it gray. It was horrible and drab, and so not me.

I seem to recall trying to paint several things gray around that time (like the fireplace in the living room, and then the fireplace again with a different gray) and none of them worked out for me, thank goodness!

That was my gray phase, and it wasn’t a good thing. 😀
And then in 2019, I gave the bathroom a more colorful makeover, and that’s when I went with the Behr Tandoori. The whole reason I went with that color is because it’s in the fabric I used for the shower curtain. And the reason I went with that shower curtain fabric is because I wanted something more colorful, and I just happened to have that fabric on hand.

I really did love that bathroom makeover for a while, but as the rest of the rooms started coming together, and I started to naturally gravitate more towards pinks instead of orangish corals, this vanity and the shower curtain seemed way too harsh for me. And since they can be seen from the living room and the music room, they really clashed with the living room curtains and the music room settee.

So for a while now, I’ve been determined to say goodbye to the orangish vanity color, and bring in a pinker color. And now I have my pink bathroom vanity!

I’m kind of wishing that I had ordered that fantastic watercolor print in wallpaper instead of fabric. Wouldn’t that look fantastic on the walls? It would really brighten the room up even more! But for now, I’ll just have to enjoy my new Glamorous bathroom vanity.

The pink looks great. I wonder if you are planning to replace the sconces, the toilet paper holder and the ceiling fixture since you are going with champagne on the pulls and faucets.
Yes, I mentioned that in the post. 🙂 All the metal fixtures will be changed.
I wouldn’t hesitate for a split second in using the floral design for the wallpaper AND shower curtain in that bathroom.
Looking at the two paint chips, I suspect you saw the same thing I did. The TuTu pink looks washed out compared to the Glamorous. That color is significantly more saturated. Anyway, It’s gorgeous now!
I like the light countertop, goes well with flooring and wall.
Ironically there is not a ballerina tutu in the world that vivid pink unless super custom!
Oh, I remember that grey phase, yuck!!!
Love the new vanity color!
This is the best iteration yet. My quirk is orange with brown, that combo does weird things in my brain😵💫😵💫. The pink tone now with the new quartz is 😘 and I still love the horizontal tile. Personally I wouldn’t change it, but not my house of course! Oh, and the shower curtain is 100% perfect. Where did you get it again?
Are you asking about the new fabric? It’s linked in the post. Unfortunately, the old shower curtain fabric is discontinued. 🙁
Love the pink, it looks great.
LOVE it! and love the fabric as well. How does Matt like the pink?
He hasn’t seen it, but he also doesn’t care. I said to him, “I painted the vanity in the hallway bathroom a dark pink. Is that something you care about?” He said, “Nope. And I don’t use that bathroom, anyway.” 😀
Oh yes — Glamorous for the win! I like your new backsplash tile, but seeing it in the same frame with your shower curtain bumped a little to my eyes — the strong geometric lines of the tile look a little bristly next to the flowy lines of your shower curtain fabric. Of course, you have surround-view, so can see how they really look together. If I were a betting woman, I’d say you’ll be lightening up that ceiling sometime down the road.
I won’t be using that tile. I went to Home Depot to purchase enough for the bathroom, and I couldn’t even find five sheets of that mosaic tile that matched in color and tone. And I needed ten. I looked through three full boxes and finally gave up. So I need to find something else.
I love how it’s coming together. Where do you have your starburst mirror now? I love it. Can’t wait to see cabinets finished.
It’s hanging over the headboard in the guest bedroom.
It looks as though you have your new shower curtain up as well. Love the new colors over the orange!! Enjoy !!!
That’s just the fabric draped over the shower curtain rod. I haven’t had time to sew it yet.
I love the new shower curtain fabric. Could you remind me if you painted the painting over your fireplace? Also, how are you liking the steamer you bought? I need to get one and I wanted to know if you are still happy with it.
I didn’t paint that. You can find a link for it on my home resources page. And I LOVE my steam cleaner! It’s so fun to use, and does an amazing job!
I love Behr’s glamorous pink. I don’t usually lean towards pink but I have used it on smaller projects. It is glamorous for sure. 😁
The new color is stunning, it really is! And your selection of champaign bronze for faucet and handle hardware is going to be sooo good.
Love the Glamourous paint color and agree that the floral wallpaper would have been a real pow. Instead, just jazz up what you’ve got on the shelves. Get a wood tissue holder and paint it to match the vanity then buy a Britt Bass Turner print or make a piece of art in the colors of the fabric. Sub an alcohol ink vase or a skinny trio for the plain white orchid. You get the idea.

Looks awesome!
Any chance you recall the name/brand of the floor tile? It’s so subtle, neutral and versatile. Thanks.
You can find listed in the sources at the end of this post: https://www.addicted2decorating.com/diy-bathroom-remodel-before-after.html
I love the color! I would stick with the horizontal pattern for the splash back though. To me its a better fit for the mood of what’s in there and the horizontal tile fits the horizontal splash. It doesn’t need changing!
Beautifully done Kristi ♥️♥️
Through your blog, I’m realizing that I need to feel comfortable with my decor colors that reflect me, not a trend. I could never understand the grey trend, and I’m so glad I didn’t fall into that trap. It also goes for fashion. I’ve spent way more money on clothing that was on sale and not considering the colors that are flattering on me. Frankly, my favorite home colors and fashion colors are in the same family. I love warm rich colors in my home and my fashion! You do your color favorites so well, Kristie!
Marvelous! I dislike orange in any way, shape form or fashion, so I’m happy to see the Glamorous pink. Awesome!
I really like the pink. You will live with it for several years and move on to something else. That is okay. I’d like to do the same, but my hubby would get me for sure. I think the present tile looks better than the new tile you have setting up behind the faucet. I see no brown tones in it at all. It looks so good with the new counter which is beautiful. It makes the bathroom looker cleaner and brighter.
Your do overs take so much thinking. At night your brain must be tired!!
Do you use a specific type of finish for wood furniture like the vanity you just painted pick. My husband painted our stair rails black. He sanded, then painted and now the paint is peeling off. Was that from not sanding enough or no primer?
I generally use satin finish.
There are a few reasons that your stair rails might be peeling. First, it would very well be that they weren’t sanded enough. If he painted over a shiny finish, that would make the paint peel. Another reason could be that he used latex paint over an oil-based finish. If the rails were originally painted with an oil-based paint, you can’t put latex paint directly over that. You first have to use primer. My favorite is Zinsser Cover Stain in an oil-based finish. Another issue could be that he used the wrong kind of paint or a product that isn’t high quality for such a high traffic use.
I’d have to know the exact process he used, and what he painted over, in order to figure out the exact problem.
I love how the newly painted cabinet brightens the entire room. Beautiful and looks so fresh and clean! Once again, I’m impressed with your choices😃
love it!!!
Love it!
I would love to see a white subway tile instead of the geometric tile you’re considering… But I know that whatever you decide, it will look stellar!! Love the changes so far!!! Way to go, Kristi!!
